I was foolish for testing the waters. I thought I could swim or at best float the turbulent rapids. Left soaked and chilled to the bone washed upon the bank. I was warmed by a smile of a lost hiker. She gave me her coat and a few sips from her canteen. We shared some beef jerky and trail mix. I slowly but surely regained my strength. We made it out of the woods. I thanked her as we parted ways. There is life after perceived death.
