Anne loved him once, a long time ago. It has been so long ago and Vin had forgotten much of her. He held tight to those memories, desperate for any small recollection. Every now and again, a song reminds him of their days. Anne used to sing certain songs to him or at least it was on “their” playlist. She left him, yet still haunts him…her ghost lingers and suffocates his sleep. Another world parallel he wanders aimlessly. He returns to that day when she tore him in two effortlessly, over Anglo-Chile wings. Thankfully, Vin never ruined her appetite for she is still a growing woman and always hungers for the next new flavor. She or he, perhaps the every Friday Happy Hour kept texting. Anne was distracted and like a drug needed her fix. Vin remembers how the screen flushed her face. Anne flipped her hair and averted her eyes as she spatted another lie. The server approached in apprehension, he asked for the tab. His heart was in his throat and he walked briskly to catch his breath. Vin refrained from crying as he focused on exhaling. Anne walked hurriedly and with relief as it would be their final hurrah. In hindsight, she taught him how deeply he can love another and an intimacy he no longer can share with anyone else. Vin regretted how much he took for granted. His selfishness, judgement and assumptions. It fills his heart to see her happy and they give her that. She deserves the very best. He wishes for the same, to kiss again other than another stranger for whom he barely knows. He wishes to fornicate and fall asleep without shame. Some day maybe God will forgive him and bring him an angel.
